ISO 42001
ISO 42001 and AI content transparency.
Content provenance as evidence for AI management systems.
Important: ISO 42001 certification requires a full AI management system, not only technical records. Verbitas supports the technical evidence layer. Certification audit requirements must be addressed with a qualified certification body.
ISO 42001 (Artificial Intelligence Management System) establishes requirements for organizations developing, providing, or using AI systems. The standard includes documentation, transparency, and accountability requirements for which content provenance records provide supporting evidence.
Key requirements
Transparency and explainability (§6.1)
ISO 42001 requires organizations to address transparency of AI systems. Content provenance records provide evidence of what tools were used, when, and by whom.
Documentation requirements (§7.5)
The standard requires documented information about AI system operations. Verbitas audit logs and manifest records provide machine-readable documented information.
Accountability (§5)
Leadership accountability for AI systems includes records of AI content generation activities. Verbitas provides tamper-evident records with RFC 3161 timestamps.
Incident records (§10)
ISO 42001 requires records of AI-related incidents and corrective actions. Content provenance records support post-incident investigation.
How Verbitas helps
Verbitas provides technical records — C2PA manifests, audit logs, and blockchain anchors — that serve as evidence for ISO 42001 documentation requirements. It does not certify ISO 42001 compliance.
